Unidentified assailants shot dead a 55-year-old man, who was the father of 10 children, at his doorstep in the Shah Latif Town area, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Shah Latif Town police station near Brohi Chowk in Sector 31-C where armed suspects opened fire on the victim inside his house, leaving him critically injured. He was being taken to a hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased was identified as Noor Din, son of Khair Bakhsh, a rickshaw driver and father of 10 children. His son, Asad Ali, said the family was asleep on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday when there was a knock at the door. As his father went to answer it, unidentified attackers opened fire and fled the scene. He added that the family had no enmity or dispute with anyone and originally belonged to Kandhkot.
A spokesperson for the Malir police said Malir SSP Dr Abdul Khaliq had taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Shah Latif SHO. He added that police had formed teams to arrest the culprits.
Initial investigation suggests the incident may be a result of personal enmity.
