CHARSADDA: The drivers of qingqi auto rickshaws staged a protest demonstration against the ongoing closure of CNG stations and the recent increase in petrol prices at the Farooq-e-Azam Chowk on Wednesday.
Hundreds of qingqi rickshaws’ drivers gathered at the Farooq-e-Azam Chowk, parking their vehicles and blocking key roads in protest against the prolonged closure of CNG stations and rising fuel prices.
The road blockade disrupted traffic for several hours as the suspension of CNG supply has caused severe difficulties for the people. Protesters warned that if CNG stations were not reopened, they would launch a province-wide wheel-jam strike on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the drivers said that the increase in petrol prices had already affected their business, reducing passenger numbers and making it difficult to earn a livelihood. They added that the closure of CNG stations had worsened the situation.
The protesters said due to the suspension of CNG for several days, dozens of drivers in the district have been forced to park their vehicles at home, increasing their financial hardships.
