LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab has foiled a major terror plot by arresting 16 suspected militants belonging to various banned organisations during operations conducted across multiple districts of the province.
Among those arrested is Marjan, described as a highly dangerous suicide bomber affiliated with Fitna-ul-Khawarij, who was apprehended in Jhang. Another suspect, Malle Khan—allegedly involved in attacks on security institutions—was arrested from Sargodha.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the department conducted 113 intelligence-based operations in different districts to prevent potential acts of terrorism. During these operations, 113 suspects were questioned, and 16 terrorists were taken into custody. Weapons, explosives, and other prohibited materials were also recovered.
The arrested individuals include Moin Khan, Asil Din, Nasir Shah, Marjan, Malle Khan, Naseeb Khan, Ali Abdullah, Saifullah, Arif Khan, and Abrarul Haq, among others. Officials said the suspects are linked to Fitna-ul-Khawarij and other proscribed organisations. They belong to various districts, including Lahore, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Jhang, Bhakkar, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, and Mianwali.
Authorities recovered 5,663 grams of explosives, 14 detonators, 25 feet of safety fuse wire, and a suicide jacket. In addition, pamphlets, magazines, prime cards, mobile phones, and cash linked to banned organisations were seized from the suspects.
The spokesperson said the militants were planning attacks on police posts.
A total of 15 cases have been registered against the arrested individuals, and further investigations are underway.
Separately, the CTD Punjab carried out 2,830 combing operations in collaboration with local police and security agencies. During these operations, 95,766 individuals were checked, 190 suspects were arrested, 175 FIRs were registered, and 167 recoveries were made.
The CTD reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure Punjab, stating that no effort will be spared in bringing terrorists and anti-state elements to justice. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activity through the CTD Punjab helpline at 0800-11111.
