LAHORE:A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly expressing satisfaction over the construction of the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital. The resolution was submitted by PMLN Chief Whip Rana M Arshad.

The text of the resolution stated that the House expresses complete confidence and satisfaction over the rapid progress and world-class infrastructure of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research.

It added that the project is a reflection of Nawaz Sharif’s vision to ensure that every citizen of Pakistan has access to the highest standards of healthcare. The House also paid tribute to CM Punjab for her tireless efforts and supervision.

According to the resolution, due to the CM’s oversight, the first such large-scale, state-of-the-art cancer treatment project in Pakistan’s 78-year history is nearing reality. The resolution noted that the mega project, costing Rs74 billion, has reached 55 percent overall physical progress. It further stated that out of the allocated Rs15 billion, Rs10.5 billion have already been spent due to the fast pace of work. The funds are being utilised ahead of the scheduled timeline.

According to a report by the Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP), the Cancer Care Clinic is 89 percent complete. Work on the Bone Marrow Transplant Block is also progressing rapidly. The resolution highlighted that this will be the only hospital in Pakistan where deserving patients will receive free cancer treatment without discrimination.

The resolution further stated that to ensure global credibility and recognition, IDAP is constructing the facility in accordance with international standards. Citing a survey, the resolution stated that 55 percent of respondents said they would vote based on the performance of CM Maryam Nawaz.

Another 42 percent expressed preference for her in the next elections. The resolution attributed this to her strong performance and development initiatives. It also expressed gratitude to media channels and the journalist community for highlighting the importance of this public welfare project. The media’s role in informing the public about its progress is acknowledged as positive and constructive.
