LAHORE: Police have dismissed a kidnapping claim involving a lady constable after investigations revealed that the woman had left home voluntarily and contracted marriage of her own free will.

The case surfaced when a First Information Report (FIR No. 720/26) was registered at Qila Gujjar Singh police station on the complaint of the woman’s mother, invoking kidnapping charges after the lady constable failed to report for duty on April 11.

SP Civil Lines Ch Asar Ali said a special team, led by the SDPO Civil Lines, was formed to trace the alleged abductee, while evidence was gathered using Safe City cameras and other modern investigative tools. However, during the course of the investigation, the kidnapping claim was found to be false. Police said Ayesha recorded a statement confirming that she had entered into marriage of her own choice without her family’s consent.

According to officials, the woman alleged that her family had been pressuring her to seek dissolution of the marriage, prompting the registration of the kidnapping case out of personal grievance. Police said that in light of the new findings, the nature of the case had been altered and legal proceedings were being adjusted accordingly. Authorities added that the constable had initially been marked absent from duty on April 11, but further action would be taken in accordance with departmental rules and the outcome of the investigation.
