Acting on a tip-off, police in Mochko intercepted one of the largest seizures of foreign currency in recent times. Officers set up surveillance on routes leading into Karachi from Balochistan. Their target was a network suspected to be involved in smuggling Iranian currency.
Police said that after two cars, bearing registration numbers AZC-922 and AYC-169, entered the area, their teams moved in, stopping both vehicles before the occupants could react. Inside were six men and three women, believed to be part of a highly wanted smuggling ring. The suspects were taken into custody without resistance.
A thorough search of the vehicles yielded 236 bundles of Iranian currency hidden within compartments. Their total was 29.69 billion Iranian rials (approximately Rs6.278 million). The arrested suspects were identified as Muhammad Asghar, Abdul Ghaffar, Bibi Sahara, Gul Seema, Bibi Afsana, Taj Muhammad, Muhammad Naseem, Nematullah and Anar Gul. Police believe the group had transported the currency via Balochistan into Karachi, possibly as part of a larger financial network operating across regions.
The suspects, along with the impounded vehicles and the seized currency, are set to be handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency for further investigation. The District Keamari police chief praised the Mochko police team for their timely action and professionalism. He also announced certificates of appreciation for the officers involved in recognition of their efforts.
