ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday said optimism should not be lost with regard to the Iran-US talks, urging Pakistan to stay away from any armed conflict.
“Although the talks have ended without a final agreement, optimism should not be lost, as both sides have acknowledged significant progress and only a few key issues remain unresolved,” said the PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram in a statement.
He said the Islamabad talks ended without a final agreement and this might seem disappointing at first glance but it was important to note that both sides had acknowledged making considerable progress.
He underlined that Pakistan played an important role in facilitating a ceasefire environment and hosting the peace talks.
“This effort reflects the country’s potential to act as a bridge for peace in a region that has long suffered from instability and conflict,” he maintained.
“The US, Iran and all other countries observing ceasefire for fourteen days should continue with a committed ceasefire to give an appropriate time to diplomacy and dialogue to resolve complex differences of opinion,” he added.
The friendly countries of Pakistan, including China, Turkiye, Egypt and others, he emphasised, played an important role in the past days in supporting Pakistan’s initiatives; therefore, these countries and other regional, European countries must continue playing their crucial role with more dedication to save the region from falling again to a devastating war.
“The PTI believes that Pakistan must continue on this path of mediation and peaceful engagement. The principle of “yes to peace, no to war,” as emphasized during the tenure of Imran Khan, should remain the foundation of our foreign policy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Akram vehemently condemned the “barbaric and criminal” negligence being perpetrated by the government against the PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.
Imran Khans right eye has only around 15% vision due to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), he noted. This life-altering condition was deliberately allowed to worsen because the jail authorities, on the instructions of the ruling regime, shamelessly ignored his repeated complaints for months and maliciously denied him timely medical intervention, he added.
He demanded that Imran be shifted immediately and unconditionally to the Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for comprehensive diagnosis, specialized treatment, and full medical evaluation under transparent conditions.
