Police in the city’s East district have arrested two members of an organised gang involved in thefts at educational institutions during a targeted operation.

According to officials, the arrested suspects were identified as Jan Sher and Musaddiq alias Musa. Initial investigations revealed that the gang had been active since 2023, carrying out systematic reconnaissance of schools before committing thefts.

Police said the suspects would hold security guards hostage during the incidents and flee after looting valuable equipment. During interrogation, the accused confessed to targeting multiple educational institutions in different areas of Karachi, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 3 and Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 6.

On the identification of the suspects, police recovered a large quantity of stolen goods, including 20 CPUs, 22 computer LCDs, one LED television, three air conditioners, and an NVR. A Suzuki vehicle used in the crimes was also taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the East Police said four cases have been registered against the suspects on complaints filed by school administrations, while their previous criminal record is also being examined. Raids are ongoing to arrest other absconding members of the gang.
