HYDERABAD: In a decisive move signalling zero tolerance for tax evasion, the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) on Friday sealed the premises of a prominent restaurant in Hyderabad for failing to comply with tax registration and payment requirements.

Acting under its ongoing enforcement campaign against non-compliant businesses, SRB officials shut down Shalimar Restaurant, located on Thandi Sarak, aafter it persistently ignored repeated notices to register with the authority and pay Sindh Sales Tax (SST) on its services.

According to an official press release issued, the restaurant had earlier been served a formal notice on March 31, directing it to fulfil its legal obligations. Despite multiple reminders, the establishment failed to respond or settle its outstanding tax liabilities.

Authorities stated that the action was taken strictly in accordance with the law after “consistent non-compliance,” underscoring the government’s resolve to widen the tax net and enforce fiscal discipline across the province. Officials warned that this was not an isolated case, adding that the SRB would continue its drive against restaurants and businesses attempting to evade tax registration or payment.

The move was part of a broader crackdown aimed at ensuring transparency and compliance in Sindh’s service sector, particularly in the hospitality industry, which remains a key contributor to provincial revenue.
