PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Friday appreciated Pakistan’s role as a mediator in brokering a US-Iran ceasefire, calling it a diplomatic triumph.
The appreciation was expressed through a resolution adopted by the SCCI Executive Committee, according to a communication.The meeting of the committee was chaired by SCCI President Junaid Altaf and held at the Chamber’s House.
It was attended by Senior Vice President Muhammad Nadeem, Fazal Moqeem Khan, Abdul Jalil Jan, Mujeebur Rehman, Aftab Iqbal, Ashfaq Ahmad, Saifullah Khan, Sajjad Zaheer, Shamsur Rahim, Abbas Fuad Azeem, Gul Zaman, Adnan Nasir and Abdul Nasir.
Ghazafar Bilour, Muhammad Asif, Zahidullah Shinwari, Malik Niaz Ahmad and Faiz Muhammad Faizi, former Senior Vice President Shahid Hussain, Naeemur Rehman, Saddar Gul, Ihsanullah, Ishtiaq Paracha, Aqeel Kiyani and Rashid Iqbal Siddiqui also attended the meeting as observers.
Secretary Muqtasid Ahsan moved the resolution on the US-Iran truce and Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, a statement issued here on Friday said.Apart from routine business matters, the agenda included the prolonged closure of Pak-Afghan trade routes, the imposition of smart lockdowns under the government’s energy conservation plan, the recent unprecedented hike in petroleum prices, and budget proposals for FY2026-27.
The house held a thorough discussion on these issues and their repercussions, particularly the increase in the cost of doing business and sluggish industrial and economic growth.The participants called upon the federal and provincial governments to announce a special incentive package in the upcoming fiscal budget to revive business, industry and trade in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The resolution stated that Pakistan’s effective role in the two-week truce between Iran and the United States had elevated the country’s stature on the global stage.It added that Pakistan’s efforts in easing tensions between Iran and the United States, as well as advancing a 10-point agenda, were highly commendable.SCCI President Junaid Altaf commended Pakistan’s successful foreign policy as reflected in the US-Iran truce.
