MARDAN: Laboratory findings have showed the presence of microbes in water samples extracted from government water supply pipelines at some areas of Mardan.
Based on official reports from the PHED Water Quality Testing Laboratory, water samples taken from Pirano Dag, Ward 3 of Takhtbhai were hazardous for public consumption.According to microbiological studies, the samples had the presence of total coliform bacteria, which indicated contamination of water.
A sample was observed to contain “TNTC (Too Numerous to Count)” bacteria whereas in another sample, the level of contamination was more than 40+ CFU/ml. Both these observations show a much higher number than the prescribed level of zero coliform bacteria in 100 ml according to WHO guidelines.
Health authorities stated that the presence of coliform bacteria indicated water contamination from sewage or environmental pollution and posed a risk of causing gastrointestinal diseases. The laboratory reports concluded that water samples were found to be “highly microbial contaminated” and unsuitable for human consumption.
