WASHINGTON: The heads of America’s biggest banks held a meeting this week with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to weigh the security implications of a powerful new artificial intelligence system developed by Anthropic, according to reports on Friday.
The gathering was convened on the sidelines of a previously scheduled meeting in Washington, with senior officials calling the extra session specifically to address Anthropic’s newly unveiled Claude Mythos model, Bloomberg and the Financial Times reported.
Anthropic released the model in restricted form earlier this week, acknowledging concerns that bad actors could weaponise its advanced capabilities. The AI firm said it had been in active talks with federal bodies including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency over the model’s potential security risks.
