ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar made a strong call in the Senate on Wednesday, urging all Muslim countries to understand that any conflict in their ranks only benefitted Israel, urging Pakistan for long-term planning to establish a comprehensive national security framework.
Taking the floor, Ali Zafar said he did not know whether the government was working on the plan but noted that the opposition had not been consulted. Ali, who is the parliamentary leader of his party, outlined the deeply concerning developments in the new world order.
He pointed out that Israel had been committing the worst kind of genocide upon Palestinians, and every time, anyone attempted to pass a UN resolution against them, America vetoed it.
Senator Zafar welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic success in brokering a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He said ending the war was also vital for Pakistan’s security, stability and well-being. Turning to Pakistan’s immediate challenges, he highlighted the chronic economic crisis facing the nation.
In her speech, PPP parliamentary leader Senator Sherry Rehman said, “We stand today as a united nation — united behind a monumental effort for peace and great national cohesion. This is a remarkable endeavour to secure a ceasefire at a moment when not just our region, but the entire world, has been pushed to the very gates of hell.
“It is because of Pakistan’s relentless efforts that humanity has been pulled back from the jaws of a terrible scenario. This achievement was once unthinkable in our entire historical spectrum. Our geopolitics, our diplomacy…all were deployed to bring the world back from an unimaginable brink of disaster. For this, I wish to express my profound gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Asim Munir, President Zardari for his leadership, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto for his steadfast support during these perilous times. Pakistan has helped steady the world at a moment of extreme crisis,” she noted.
However, Senator Rehman continued, “We faced soaring petroleum prices. We were not alone; the shock reverberated globally, and the consequences could have been far worse for everyone. It is only right to acknowledge all those who worked tirelessly, through sleepless nights and across difficult divides, to bring us to this point of ceasefire. It is, undeniably a fragile peace.”
She noted, “We must thank both Iran and the United States for stepping back from the precipice and helping stabilise what could have spiraled into a catastrophe. We owe gratitude to every actor that played a part in steering us away from a crisis of horror. I lost my own child two weeks ago, what world we would have left for our children if this continued?”
Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani warmly welcomed the announcement of ceasefire, terming it a significant and encouraging step toward peace, stability, and de-escalation in the Middle East and beyond.
