ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while also urging the government to immediately pass on the benefit of falling global oil prices to the public.

In a statement, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram expressed hope that both sides would strictly adhere to the ceasefire terms, paving the way for a permanent truce and long-term regional stability.

He reiterated the party’s consistent stance in favour of peace and dialogue, stressing that conflicts cannot be resolved through military means. “History shows that wars only bring destruction, instability and loss of innocent lives,” he said, while appreciating the role of mediators in achieving the temporary ceasefire.

Separately, the PTI leader called on the government to announce a reduction in petroleum prices within the next 24 hours, citing a sharp drop in global crude oil prices — from around $119 per barrel to nearly $90.

He stressed that the decline should be immediately reflected in fuel prices, transport fares and the cost of essential goods to ease inflationary pressure on households and farmers. He urged authorities to ensure that savings are not absorbed by intermediaries but passed on transparently to consumers.

The PTI also called for a clear and time-bound mechanism — within 7 to 14 days — for implementing price reductions, along with regular public reporting and independent monitoring. It further demanded coordinated action among relevant ministries, oil marketing companies and transporters to ensure effective implementation.

“The public cannot wait while prices remain artificially high. When global oil prices fall, the relief must reach people immediately,” he added, urging swift and transparent action to reduce the financial burden on citizens.
