Rs13bn allocated for CM’s special programme for cancer patients: Salman

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Health Khawaja Salman Rafique on Wednesday visited Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Oncology (INMOL) Lahore.

On this occasion, Punjab Health Initiative Management Company CEO Dr Ali Razaq, COO Shamshad Ali Khan, Director Mian Muneeb, officers of State Life Insurance Corporation and others were present.

The minister distributed health cards among cancer patients under the CM’s special programme and visited different wards of the hospital. He appreciated the medical facilities provided to cancer patients by Inmol. Salman Rafique said that the CM’s Special Programme for Cancer Patients was launched in March 2026.

‘All permanent residents of Punjab are eligible under this programme. The annual treatment limit per patient has been set at Rs1million.

The Punjab government has allocated funds of Rs13billion for this programme. More than 12,000 patients have been registered under this programme in less than 15 days. So far, more than Rs32billion have been spent on cancer treatment under the CM's Special Initiative for Cancer Patients,’ the minister added.

Khawaja Salman Rafique has emphasised transparency in flagship programmes, improving quality of service and ensuring good monitoring for convenience of patients.

He also addressed a meeting held in Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department regarding the CM’s health initiatives.

Salman Rafique was briefed during the meeting about the monitoring framework of various health projects, service delivery and steps taken for patient convenience.

During the meeting, public feedback was also reviewed regarding Chief Minister’s Adult Cardiac Surgery, Special Programme for Cancer Patients and Special Programme for Stroke Management.

Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood said that the performance of 57 specialised hospitals of Punjab was also reviewed in the meeting.

For the convenience of the heart patients of Sargodha division, instructions have been given to make Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology fully functional soon.
