The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi hosted the Japanese Calendar Exhibition 2026 at the State Bank Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday.
The exhibition showcases 80 Japanese calendars provided by the Japan Calendar Publishers Cooperative Union (JCAL), featuring themes ranging from nature and landscapes to modern design and cultural heritage. More than simple date markers, the calendars reflect Japan’s admiration for time, seasons, and harmony with nature.
Visitors could explore how calendars serve as a form of visual storytelling, blending practicality with artistry, and demonstrating how Japanese design achieves a balance of simplicity, detail, and functionality.
The exhibition also features Hina Dolls (Hina-ningyo) to commemorate Hinamatsuri, or Girls’ Day, a Japanese festival held annually in March to pray for the happiness, health, and prosperity of young girls.
The Consulate-General of Japan aimed to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Pakistan by offering the public an accessible and engaging cultural experience. The exhibition would remain open to the public from April 7 to 8, 2026, free of charge.
