Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged police encounter with the Shaheen Force in the Super Market police station limits on Wednesday.
According to police, the suspects were busy looting citizens when Shaheen Force personnel reached the scene. Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting a gun battle. During the exchange of fire, both suspects were killed. A bullet fired by the robbers struck the bulletproof jacket of a Shaheen Force official, who remained unharmed.
Police said weapons, mobile phones, and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspects, while their bodies were shifted to a hospital for legal formalities. A citizen identified the killed suspects, stating that they had robbed him and his family near Liaquatabad’s Sindhi Hotel area. In a video statement, the man said the robbers snatched mobile phones and a wallet and even held his son at gunpoint. He added that after the incident, he contacted Madadgar 15, and police arrived within minutes, relaying the information via wireless, which led to the encounter.
Separately, Baghdadi police arrested two members of an inter-provincial drug trafficking group and recovered more than four kilogrammes of hashish worth millions of rupees, officials said. According to SHO Chaudhry Babar Hameed, the suspects Anwar Ali and Tariq Aziz were apprehended during a raid carried out on a tip-off. Police recovered 4.13 kilograms of hashish from their possession. Officials said the accused used to bring drugs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and supply them to different parts of the city. A case has been registered against the suspects under the Narcotics Act, and they have been handed over to the investigation police for further proceedings. The SHO said operations against drug peddlers will continue.
