Islamabad: Both private and public educational institutions in Islamabad will remain closed for the next four days as the district administration on Wednesday declared local holidays on April 9 and 10.

With Thursday and Friday falling on notified holidays, followed by the weekend, students in the capital will get a four-day break from in-person learning, according to a notification of the administration.

Though no reason was cited for holidays in the notification, officials say the move is part of heightened administrative and security arrangements as Islamabad is going to host top officials from the United States and Iran on Friday for talks to ease tensions in the Middle East following a two-week ceasefire.

The holiday decision was announced by the Office of the District Magistrate, Islamabad, which said the holidays would be observed within the revenue limits of the Islamabad Capital Territory.

According to it, essential government offices and public service departments will continue to function. While the official notification does not specifically mention schools and colleges, the closure effectively applies to all educational institutions in the city.
