Paris: An American challenger has been confirmed for the 2027 America’s Cup in Naples, which had been set to be the first edition of sailing’s premier event not to feature a boat from the US.

The USA first won the trophy in 1851 and successfully defended it for 132 years, widely agreed to be the longest winning streak in sporting history. American Racing Challenger Team USA have been announced as the sixth team taking part in next year’s event.

“Having the opportunity to represent the United States once again in the America’s Cup is a tremendous honour,” said the team’s CEO Ken Read. “We’re under no illusion about the challenges ahead and we’re fully focused on building a team that can win the Cup.”
