LAHORE: Chinese Consul General Sun Yan will inaugurate the Chinese Language Corner at the Civil Services Academy’s (CSA) PAS Campus on April 16, following his acceptance of a formal invitation extended by the academy, in what officials describe as a significant step towards expanding Pakistan-China cooperation into the civil services domain.
Sun Yan will attend the ceremony as chief guest at the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) Campus where he will formally open the facility established within the academy’s library in collaboration with the Confucius Institute. The visit will also include the distribution of certificates among probationary officers who have successfully completed a basic Chinese language course.
According to an official communication issued by CSA Director General Farhan Aziz Khawaja, the initiative forms part of the institute’s broader academic and cultural outreach within the academy and reflects a growing emphasis on institutional engagement between Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China.
The Chinese Language Corner has been conceived as a dedicated and well-resourced academic space aimed at facilitating language acquisition and cultural literacy among probationary officers undergoing training at the CSA. The facility provides access to a diverse array of learning materials, including Chinese language literature, audio visual content and digital learning aids, enabling officers to develop foundational proficiency in the language.
Officials told Daily Jang that the initiative is designed not only to impart basic linguistic skills but also to cultivate a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, societal values and contemporary developments. This, they added, would help young civil servants engage more effectively in policy formulation and administrative coordination in an environment increasingly influenced by Pakistan’s expanding engagement with China.
The ceremony will also feature the distribution of certificates by the Chinese consul general to probationers of the 48th Specialized Training Programme who have successfully completed the basic Chinese language course offered under the initiative.
In his invitation, the CSA director general had described it as a “singular honour” for the academy to host the Chinese consul general for the inauguration, noting that his presence would serve as encouragement for probationers and further reinforce the enduring bonds of friendship between the two countries.
