Two cops, guard martyred in Bannu attacks

BANNU: A police constable and security guard embraced martyrdom as armed men opened fire on them at the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) office while a cop was martyred in a separate firing incident on Monday.

Officials said that unidentified armed men opened fire on Constable Rafiullah and security guard Gul Shah Noor, who were deputed at the Nadra office in Bakakhel area of the Bannu district.

As a result, both constable Rafiullah and security guard Gul Shah Noor attained martyrdom. The funeral prayer for Constable Rafiullah was offered at Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines in Bannu with full state honors.

It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faheem, Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi, senior police and administrative officials, officers, personnel, and a large number of the martyr’s relatives.

Earlier in the day, Constable Sher Muhammad was martyred in a separate firing incident in the limits of the Meryan Kanger Police Station. DPO Yasir Afridi said that those responsible for the attacks would be arrested and brought to justice.

He said a district-wide search and checking operation had been launched, and urged the public to report any suspicious individuals immediately. Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi condemned the incidents. They offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the martyrs’ elevated status and patience for their loved ones.
