ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi on Monday presented in the National Assembly province-wise details of impounded, cancelled, under-inquiry, blocked computerised national identity cards (CNICs), and those restored or pending during the last three years.
In a written reply to a question by Naeema Kishwar Khan, the minister said that 85,342 CNICs were impounded across provinces, including Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the last three years. Of those, 37,258 CNICs were impounded under court orders, while 48,084 were impounded under Section 18.
He added that 99,680 CNICs were cancelled under Section 18, while 52,776 CNICs were cleared, including 30,162 under court orders and 22,614 under Section 8. Inquiries under Sections 18 and 23 remain in process for 48,079 CNICs.
Province-wise details: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: 12,274 CNICs impounded under court orders and 975 under Section 18; 46,898 CNICs cancelled under Section 18; 11,941 CNICs cleared under court orders and 790 cleared under Section 18; inquiries ongoing for 15,560 CNICs.
Punjab: 4,496 CNICs impounded under court orders and 17,423 under Section 18; 12,145 CNICs cancelled under Section 18; 5,135 cleared under court orders and 5,618 under Section 18; 8,108 CNICs under inquiry.
Balochistan: 1,412 CNICs impounded under court orders and 6,443 under Section 18; 31,068 CNICs cancelled; 938 cleared under court orders and 3,882 under Section 18; 9,583 CNICs under inquiry.
Sindh: 17,034 CNICs impounded under court orders and 21,866 under Section 18; 7,190 CNICs cancelled; 10,202 cleared under court orders and 3,821 under Section 18; 7,305 CNICs under inquiry.
Islamabad: 1,387 CNICs impounded under court orders and 927 under Section 18; 1,954 CNICs cancelled; 1,538 cleared under court orders and 923 under Section 18; 6,015 CNICs under inquiry. Azad Jammu & Kashmir: 370 CNICs impounded under court orders and 435 under Section 18; 279 CNICs cancelled; 260 cleared under court orders and 349 under Section 18; 505 CNICs under inquiry.
Gilgit-Baltistan: 331 CNICs impounded under court orders and 15 under Section 18; 146 CNICs cancelled; 148 cleared under court orders and 111 under Section 18; 1,003 CNICs under inquiry.
