The Mianwali–Kalabagh Road road has been carrying a large share of the traffic moving between southern Punjab, northern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent years. Unfortunately, a single road is simply not capable of sustaining such a heavy burden. While large vehicles continue to move, the situation has become extremely dangerous for small motorists and bikers. Far too frequently, reports emerge of bikers being run over by heavy vehicles or struck by speeding cars, resulting in a steadily rising death toll.
Regrettably, the elected representatives of the area seem to have shown little concern over this serious issue. If immediate and concrete measures are not taken, this road will continue to claim innocent lives. The authorities must move beyond empty promises and ensure the prompt widening and proper regulation of this vital route.
