Rawalpindi:Continuous rainfall in Murree has triggered landslides in several areas, with Jheeka Gali among the worst affected.
According to the district administration, an immediate rescue operation was launched after the landslide to ensure the safety of local residents. People in and around the affected areas have been shifted to safer locations.
Deputy Commissioner Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, directed all relevant departments to remain active in the field. Teams from Rescue 1122, police, highway department, local government and other institutions are working in close coordination at the site.
Emergency machinery, vehicles, medical facilities and staff have been deployed to handle any situation. Authorities are also working to restore link roads and remove debris as quickly as possible affectees have been provided with basic safety equipment and food.
The DC Murree stated that rescue personnel will remain on site with full emergency resources. He added that intermittent rainfall has continued over the past few days, while the Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming week.
Heavy rains caused the landslide, but a treatment plan has already been prepared by the Highway Department and NESPAK. Work will begin as soon as weather conditions improve, he said, adding that public safety remains the top priority. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Umar Awais Kiani also visited the affected area to review safety arrangements.
