LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that money saved through government austerity measures would be spent on the public.
The premier chaired a meeting on Saturday to review petroleum reserves in the country and public relief measures amid recent regional tensions. “Provision of relief funds to public transport and freight vehicle operators through digital wallets has been initiated,” he said. “We are striving to ensure that relief reaches economically weaker segments as soon as possible,” he added. “We will not leave our people alone in difficult times.”
He maintained that providing relief to the common man in challenging circumstances was the government’s top priority. The meeting apprised the prime minister of progress in implementing public relief measures in view of the increase in petroleum product prices. He was told about the availability of adequate reserves of petroleum products to meet the country’s needs. The meeting was also informed about progress in the implementation of public relief initiatives.
Meanwhile, the prime minister paid tribute to former prime minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his death anniversary, acknowledging his significant national, political and constitutional contributions. In his message, the prime minister praised Bhutto’s sincere efforts for the country’s development, prosperity and strengthening of national defence during his tenure as prime minister, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
He also mentioned Bhutto’s pivotal role in the formulation and passage of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan, describing it as “a cornerstone for the parliamentary democracy and promotion of democracy in the country.” Shehbaz commended ZAB’s commitment to democratic governance, emphasising his efforts to promote people-centric policies by addressing public issues. He also noted that ZAB represented Pakistan on the global stage during his tenure as the prime minister. He prayed for the high ranks of ZAB’s in Jannah and observed that his political services would always be remembered.
Meanwhile, the prime minister felicitated Christians around the world, especially the Christian community of Pakistan, on behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan, on the joyous and auspicious occasion of Easter.
In a message on Easter, he said, “I also extend my best wishes of traditional festivities of Easter to all citizens. May this blessed day usher an era of peace, stability and prosperity for the Christian community, our country and for the entire world.
“In today’s tenacious global environment, message of peace ebbed in all religions has become ever more significant. Easter, like all religious occasions, carries a universal message of love and renewed hope for all humanity. It embodies the values of sacrifice and forgiveness, as well as peace, tolerance, brotherhood and goodwill, promoting social cohesion and interfaith harmony,” he added.
The prime minister said that the Christian community of Pakistan is rendering commendable and admirable services across all professional fields and continues to play an active and invaluable role in the country’s economic and social development.
