ISLAMABAD: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has said that the Pakistan Navy was poised to sink India’s aircraft carrier during Operation Marka-e-Haq in May last year, but the Indian navy stayed confined to its safer haven.

He was addressing the induction ceremony of the second PN MILGEM-class corvette, PNS Khaibar in Karachi.

He highlighted the importance of a strong, balanced and technologically advanced navy.

He said Pakistan’s strategic location along vital maritime trade and energy corridors necessitates a potent naval force to safeguard national interests and ensure secure Sea Lines of Communications (SLOCs).

He underscored that during Marka-e-Haq, the Pakistan Navy maintained a posture capable of deterring the adversary, forcing the Indian Navy to remain confined to its perceived safe havens.

He said the conduct and operational preparedness of the Pakistan Navy during Marka-e-Haq sent a clear message that any attempt to challenge Pakistan’s maritime interests would be met with an appropriate and decisive response.

The naval chief noted that the Pakistan Navy is being equipped with state-of-the-art platforms and advanced technologies, enhancing its capability to effectively respond to evolving threats, including targeting critical infrastructure and adversary assets when required.

He added that the induction of modern platforms such as PNS Khaibar, along with the forthcoming Hangor-class submarines, marks a significant milestone in the navy’s modernisation drive, boosting operational flexibility, combat strength and strategic reach.

He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s resolve to defend the country’s maritime frontiers and uphold its role as guardian of the seas.

APP adds: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed pleasure and pride over the induction of the modern warship PNS Khaiber into the Pakistan Navy fleet, terming it a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and safeguarding its maritime frontiers.

He noted that Pakistan’s geographical location holds immense strategic importance, as major global trade and energy routes pass through its maritime domain.

He stressed that a strong, balanced, and technologically advanced navy is essential to protect national interests and ensure secure Sea Lines of Communications (SLOCs).

Referring to Marka-e-Haq, he praised the professionalism and operational preparedness of the Pakistan Navy, stating that its performance compelled the adversary to retreat. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and maritime interests.

He stated that the government remains committed to equipping the Pakistan Navy in line with modern requirements to effectively address emerging challenges.
