MANSEHRA: Two brothers died and five other members fell unconscious after consuming poisonous herbs during a visit to the alpine tourist resort of Panjagalli in Oghi tehsil.
“The condition of three women and two men, who were shifted to a nearby health facility, is still critical, while the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the family,” a local health department official told reporters in Oghi on Saturday.
Seven members of a family had travelled to the tourist resort of Panjagalli from Phagora village. They prepared a meal using local herbs collected during the trip and later fell unconscious.
Locals rushed them to the civil hospital in Oghi, where doctors pronounced Muhammad Ibrar and his brother Muhammad Waqar, both in their early 30s, dead.
The remaining unconscious family members were hospitalised and given treatment, including abdominal wash, but their condition remained critical.
Muhammad Sajid, a local resident, told reporters that they had shifted the unconscious family members to the health facility.
“The government should initiate a drive to educate people against consuming unknown herbs without proper knowledge to prevent such incidents,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police in Shinkiari arrested five accused in connection with the murder of two women after a local court cancelled their pre-arrest bail.
Additional Judge Abdul Hassan Mehmood cancelled the pre-arrest bail of Shahzad Ghazi, Ghaffar Ali, Mahaz Ali, Azan Ali, and Saddam Hussain, and sent them to jail on a 16-day judicial remand.
The accused had allegedly killed the wives of Sohrab Khan and his brother Aqil Khan in the
Dodial area and had managed to flee.
