LANDIKOTAL: The district education authorities started distributing free books among students enrolled at state-run schools in Khyber tribal districct, officials said on Saturday.
Talking to The News, Assistant District Education Officer Tahir Afridi said that they would distribute free books in 95 middle, high and higher secondary schools.
He said they had started providing free books in 401 primary schools in Landikotal, Jamrud and Bara, adding that this would cater to the needs of about 75,000 students.
Tahir Afridi said that under rules, 50 percent new while 50 percent old books were being recollected from promoted students from each school.
He said that delay in supplying books to schools in Khyber created problems for students and teachers alike.
Tahir Afridi stated that authorities were trying to manage the shortage by recollecting used books from students, who were promoted to next grades.
