NOWSHERA: Police have traced a reported robbery case involving Rs142 million on the motorway, revealing that the complainant himself was behind the incident.
SDPO Akora Khattak Circle, Akhtar Naseer Khan, told media that on April 2, one Asmatullah, a resident of Kota village in Swabi district, had reported that he was carrying Rs142 million from Peshawar when unidentified armed men intercepted him on the motorway and snatched the cash.
However, during initial investigation, contradictions were found in the statement of his companion, Amir Khan. They were taken into custody for further questioning. During interrogation, they confessed that the money actually belonged to their Afghan partner, Ghausuddin, who had entrusted them with transferring it to Islamabad.
Police officials said the suspects staged a fake robbery to embezzle the amount. Acting on their identification, police conducted a raid in Kota village and recovered $50,000 (equivalent to Rs142 million). Both the main suspect and his accomplice have been arrested.
