MANSEHRA: The presence of a wildcat along with her cubs has created fear among residents, particularly women and children, in the Amlok Paza area of Oghi tehsil.

“Yes, we have received information that a wildcat with her cubs has been spotted in the area, creating a sense of insecurity among locals. We will first verify the reports and then take action to drive it back to its natural habitat,” Mohsin Shah, sub-divisional wildlife officer, Oghi Range, told reporters on Friday.

He said that the lactating mother might have entered the populated area in search of food.“Our team will visit the area to gather detailed information from locals and identify the locations frequented by the animal. We will then take appropriate measures to safely relocate her and her cubs,” Shah said.

He added that the department’s technical team would initially use locally made crackers in nearby areas to scare the animal away, and if needed, other methods would also be employed.“Residents should remain cautious, particularly women and children, as we will soon complete the task of relocating the animal to its natural alpine habitat,” the official maintained.
