LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that the future of youth is closely linked with digital literacy, and the curriculum is being aligned with the requirements of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He stated that under the CM’s vision to equip youth with digital skills, the current year is being observed as the ‘Year of Youth.’ In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Google and Tech Valley to enhance digital skills among 100,000 students and teachers across Punjab.

He expressed these views while chairing a series of meetings with representatives of Google and Tech Valley, focusing on the implementation of AI in educational institutions and progress on adapting curricula according to AI requirements. The minister said that under the MoU, Google and Tech Valley will facilitate Google Career Certifications for 100,000 students, teachers, and supporting staff from 64 public and private universities in Punjab. He highlighted that these internationally recognised courses—worth thousands of dollars—will be offered free of cost. Rana Sikandar Hayat added that 14 modern courses have been introduced in collaboration with Tech Valley to strengthen students’ capacity, enabling them to compete in the global market.

He emphasised that technology is evolving rapidly, and mastering it is key to a bright future for youth. ‘We are equipping young people with the skills to tackle challenges using AI and empowering them through technology,’ he said. Terming the MoU with Google and Tech Valley a significant milestone, the minister also announced that vice chancellors of the top five performing universities may be sent to Google Headquarters for training.

First draft of AI syllabi presented to minister

In a significant milestone for education in Punjab, the Punjab Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) has successfully rolled out a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum within the 60-day timeline set by the CM.

The first draft of the curriculum was formally presented to the Minister for School Education and the Parliamentary Secretary by the Chief Executive Officer of PECTAA, Muhammad Musa Ali Bokhari. The newly launched framework is designed to equip students from an early age with critical digital competencies. The curriculum spans foundational computing concepts through to advanced domains including data science, machine learning, robotics, and ethical AI. Structured through a progressive, age-appropriate framework, it ensures that students do not merely consume technology, they are empowered to create, innovate and lead in a rapidly evolving digital world.

A defining feature of the curriculum is its dual focus, integrating global best practices while remaining firmly rooted in local context.
