LAHORE:A ninth-grade schoolgirl was seriously injured in an acid attack in Chuhng area, while the main suspect was later killed in a police ‘encounter’.
The incident occurred when the student was returning home from an academy. Unidentified assailants allegedly threw acid on her and fled. Initial investigation suggests the attack may have been motivated by a personal dispute, possibly linked to refusal of a marriage proposal, officials said. Police registered a case on the complaint of the girl’s father. Police set up checkpoints across the city and formed special teams to track down the suspects. Official reportedly later attempted to intercept two suspected motorcyclists in the Green Town area. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team. Police retaliated and pursued the suspects, managing to apprehend one of them in an injured condition. The suspect, identified as Sajid, later died while being shifted to hospital, officials said. His accomplice managed to escape.

Police have arrested fourmembers of a gang involved in motorcycle theft and street snatching in the Data Darbar area.
According to police, the suspects would steal motorcycles and later use the same vehicles to carry out snatching incidents across different parts of the city. Officials said the gang was also involved in a mobile phone snatching incident on the third day of Eid in the Data Darbar vicinity. They were identified as Hassan, Aziz, Afzal and Bilal.
Meanwhile, police arrested two suspects involved in robberies, including an incident targeting dengue workers. Officials said the accused had, a few days earlier, robbed dengue workers at gunpoint in the Defence B police jurisdiction. The arrested individuals were identified as Zahid and Siddique. Cases have been registered against them.
Meanwhile, police arrested a suspect for allegedly attempting to kill a 10-yearold boy following a minor altercation in the Kot Lakhpat area.The incident occurred late at night on Chandrai Road near a general store, where the child, identified as Ibrahim, had gone to purchase household items. Officials said a verbal exchange took place between the suspect and the child, which escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked the boy with a knife, striking him on the back of the neck. The injured child was shifted to a hospital, where he is reported to be out of danger. A case was registered against the accused.
