LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen’s opener Saim Ayub has become the 28th batter in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history to cross the 1,000-run mark.

The milestone came in Kingsmen’s third PSL 11 fixture against Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium, when Ayub stylishly dispatched Shehzad Gul for a boundary off the very first ball of the innings.

At just 23 years old, Ayub joins an elite list that includes Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. He is also the first Kingsmen batter to achieve the feat, though the majority of his runs — 860 — were scored during his stint with Peshawar Zalmi from 2023 to 2025. His PSL journey began with Quetta Gladiators in 2021, where he managed 114 runs in seven innings at a modest average of 16.28.

Ayub’s all-round credentials further enhance his value. Alongside his batting, he has claimed 14 PSL wickets at an average of 30.42 and an economy rate of 7.88. His versatility made him the most expensive local player in PSL history, signed directly by Hyderabad Kingsmen for a record Rs126 million in the league’s first-ever auction.

Despite the landmark, Ayub’s current campaign has been underwhelming. He scored just 17 runs against Lahore Qalandars in the opener and 8 against Quetta Gladiators in the second match. At the time of filing, he was unbeaten on 13 runs, taking his career tally to 1,012 runs in 44 PSL matches.
