FAISALABAD: A special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sentenced prominent industrialist Sheikh Danish to 14 years and 9 months in prison with hard labour and a fine of Rs12.1 million for subjecting a medical student to inhumane treatment and torture and circulating her videos on the social media.
The court awarded the co-accused, Maham Fatima, 9 years and 9 months in prison with hard labour and a fine of Rs6.15 million. Two other accused were acquitted.
According to the prosecution, Sheikh Danish tortured the student, Khadija, for refusing to marry him and circulated her videos on the social media in 2022.
The FIA Cyber Crime had registered a case against Sheikh Danish, his daughter, secretary Maham Fatima and other employees under the PECA Act.
Additional Sessions Judge Kaniz Fatima Bhatti pronounced the verdict, sentencing Sheikh Danish to various prison terms and fines under different sections of the PECA Act, and Maham Fatima to prison terms and fines.
The court acquitted two other accused, including Anna Sheikh, and cancelled Sheikh Danish’s bail, ordering his arrest and imprisonment.
