Upgrading all hospitals under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) along modern lines and providing quality healthcare facilities to residents on their doorstep is a top priority, the city mayor said on Tuesday.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that under a public-private partnership, all facilities at the Spencer Eye Hospital are being improved, and it would be reopened on April 6 after the completion of the rehabilitation and renovation work.

He visited the hospital to review the ongoing development, repair and upgrade work, and directed the relevant authorities to further expedite the pace of work. He inspected the under-construction wards, the operation theatre, the OPD and other facilities, saying that for the first time in the KMC’s history, revolutionary changes are being introduced in the health department.

He stressed that all resources are being utilised transparently to ensure the provision of the best possible facilities to the public. He also ordered further improving the quality of medical services.

Medical & Health Services Senior Director Dr Mahwash Muttani briefed him that the hospital would be equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, advanced laser technology, and treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors for various eye diseases.

According to the hospital administration, after the renovation the hospital would offer modern infection control systems, comfortable waiting areas, and improved medical facilities. It will soon resume its services with enhanced, modern and free eye care facilities for the public.
