LAHORE: The All-Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (APFTU) has urged the prime minister and chief ministers to halt the proposed privatisation of profit-making public institutions, including electricity companies, Pakistan Railways, and the National Bank, citing national interest.

In a resolution, the federation demanded immediate hiring to address staff shortages, improved workplace safety, reduction in petroleum prices, and lower electricity tariffs.

It also called for regularization of employees, restoration of trade union activities, and an end to forced salary deductions. The federation warned that if negotiations with the government fail, a nationwide ‘Day of Demands’ will be observed.
