At least 10 people, including women and children, were injured in a powerful explosion caused by a gas leak in PIB Colony’s Nafeesabad area of Karachi.

According to police, the blast occurred on the second floor of a ground-plus-two-storey house with the impact heard across the neighbourhood.

Three people, including a woman and her daughter, sustained burn injuries inside the house, while seven others — including four children — were injured after walls and parts of the roof collapsed.

Teams from Rescue 1122 and welfare organisations rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Civil Hospital’s burns ward and other medical facilities.

Police and Sindh Rangers personnel also reached the site. According to PIB Colony SHO Rana Ajmal, the burn victims were identified as 40-year-old Samira, her daughter Kolak and 50-year-old Jeevan.

He added that five members of a neighbouring family — including three young children — were injured when a wall collapsed due to the blast. Two more individuals — a man and his young daughter — were also hurt when debris from the affected house fell onto an adjacent structure.

Police said those inside the house where the explosion occurred had suffered serious burn injuries, while others injured by falling debris were reported to be out of danger.

Bomb Disposal Squad officials confirmed that the explosion was caused by a gas leak and was not an act of sabotage.
