PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, be allowed to meet their family members on Eid-ul-Fitr.
In the letter, the chief minister noted that the issue of meetings with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi has been raised repeatedly in the past. He emphasized that prisoners must be granted the right to meet their families in accordance with legal provisions and humanitarian principles. The chief minister expressed concern that, despite jail manuals and court orders, obstacles in the provision of basic rights remain troubling. The letter stated that ensuring humane treatment, and proper medical facilities for prisoners is a legal responsibility of the state. Referring to the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 and the Prisons Act 1894, Sohail Afridi called for the provision of all due rights to the PTI founder and his spouse. He urged authorities to issue immediate directives to ensure their legal rights are upheld.
