BAHAWALPUR: Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), visited the women injured in Monday’s roof collapse incident at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan and expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased women by visiting their homes. She also distributed relief cheques to the affected women and their families.

The Chairperson BISP also distributed relief of Rs three lakh each to the injured women, while cheques of Rs 10 lakh were given to the heirs of the deceased. While expressing her grief over the mishap, the Chairperson BISP said that the government shares the grief of the bereaved families. Rubina Khalid added that a case has been registered and a full and transparent investigation will be conducted, and that those responsible for the accident will be severely punished.

Talking to the media, Rubina Khalid said that these payments were the last instalment under the old system, and that from the next quarter, the money will be paid through the new digital wallet system to ensure timely and respectful payments. She said that this step is being taken in accordance with the vision of Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif so that women can receive relief funds with dignity and respect. She assured that the distribution of funds and the system of devices will be made more transparent.
