QUETTA: Heavy rains and flash floods in Balochistan have claimed two more lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to nine, with at least ten injured and hundreds displaced, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan.
The PDMA reported that in Zhob and Duki, fatalities occurred due to collapsing roofs, while in Loralai, two children drowned in floodwaters. Several others, including women and children, were injured in incidents involving falling walls and roofs. Since 20 March, continuous rains and floods have claimed nine lives and injured ten others, including men, women, and children. Over 150 houses have been damaged across districts such as Kachhi, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, and Harnai, with 28 completely destroyed and 122 partially damaged. Kachhi district reported the highest number of affected homes, with 100 structures damaged. Flooding and heavy rains have disrupted roads and transportation, particularly in Harnai, Kohlu, and surrounding areas, where several highways and link roads have been closed, severely affecting ground connectivity.
In Zhob, torrential rains and hailstorms caused the roof of a room to collapse, killing 16-year-old Faisal Khan, son of Master Khan Muhammad, and injuring four others, including women, who were taken to the civil hospital. In another incident in Ghosa Kabzai, Ghundi Silmanzai, a three-year-old child, Israr Ullah Khan, died while five others were injured. In Walm, a wall collapse killed one person and injured several others. Recent storms and hail have caused extensive crop damage, running into millions of rupees, destroyed infrastructure, demolished houses, and killed livestock. Social groups in Zhob have demanded government compensation and the deployment of PDMA teams for relief.
In Tehsil Sui, a young man died under the debris of a collapsed dilapidated house despite immediate rescue efforts by local residents. In Dera Bugti, heavy rains and strong winds severely damaged standing crops, including wheat, causing significant financial losses for farmers. Local residents urged the district administration to provide immediate relief, and assessment teams were dispatched.
Heavy rains and hail over the past two days have also affected Nasirabad, Jafarabad, Jhal Magsi, Kachhi, Sohbatpur, Bakhtiarabad, Tamboo Manjho Shori, Notal, Gandawah, Chattar, Phalji, and Dera Bugti. Hundreds of mud houses collapsed, livestock perished, and hundreds of people were displaced. Power outages for the past 48 hours have worsened living conditions, with several ground routes cut off.
In Kachhi district, areas including Haji Shahr, Ghazi Bhag, and Jalal Khan were extensively flooded, submerging villages and destroying thousands of acres of crops, while hundreds of livestock died. In Dera Murad Jamali, Tamboo Manjho Shori, Balan Shakh, Qaidy Shakh, and Omrani Shakh faced severe flooding affecting thousands of acres of wheat, chickpeas, and mustard fields. Floodwaters blocked roads, trapping hundreds of families.
