QUETTA: A high-level meeting on the law and order situation of Balochistan decided to utilise the services of the Federal Constabulary to establish sustainable peace.

In the first phase, two wings of the force will be deployed, while approximately 3,000 personnel will ultimately be stationed in various sensitive areas across the province to further strengthen law and order. The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta on Monday, jointly chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Senior officials from federal and provincial institutions attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in Balochistan, the repatriation of Afghan refugees, measures to curb the hawala and hundi system, the elimination of extortion, and efforts to prevent smuggling, among other crucial issues.

During the session, the Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), the Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Director General of National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and the Inspector General of Federal Constabulary provided detailed briefings on matters related to their respective institutions. They informed the meeting about ongoing measures to curb illegal activities, improve institutional capacity, and ensure peace and stability in the province.

It was also decided that the FIA would be made more active and effective in Balochistan. For this purpose, all vacant posts in the agency will be filled with local recruits to provide employment opportunities for the youth of the province and to enhance the institution’s performance at the local level.

The federal and provincial governments also agreed to ensure effective monitoring of anti-state activities on social media. Legal action against individuals involved in spreading baseless propaganda against the state and national institutions and misleading the public will be intensified.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured the Balochistan government of full support from the federal government. He said the federation would continue to cooperate with the provincial government to ensure peace and stability and to eliminate terrorism in the province.

He added that assistance would also be provided to enhance the professional capacity of the Balochistan Police, including modern training and resources.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the provincial government was taking firm and determined steps to eliminate terrorism and unrest. He stressed that the fight against terrorism was not only the responsibility of security forces but a collective struggle of the entire nation, requiring national unity and solidarity.

He reiterated that the writ of the state would be ensured in Balochistan under all circumstances and that there would be no compromise on the rule of law. The chief minister said the situation in the province had improved significantly due to the government’s effective strategy and cooperation among institutions, noting that highways were no longer being blocked in the name of protests.

He appreciated the federal government’s support for maintaining peace in the province and said terrorism and unrest would be defeated through joint efforts, coordinated strategies, and national unity.

Among those present at the meeting were Member of the Provincial Assembly Zia Langove, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan, and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, along with other officials.
