PESHAWAR: The PHC on Monday sought a response from the federal government and other relevant authorities on a writ petition challenging the inclusion of the name of Amjad Ali Khan, a leader of PTI and MNA, in the Exit Control List (ECL). A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel heard the petition and later issued a written order in the case.
Counsel for the petitioner, Alam Khan Adenzai, appeared before the court, while an assistant attorney general represented the federation. The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that Amjad Ali, elected from Swat as a member of the National Assembly, had been placed on the ECL. However, he said no record had yet been provided explaining why his name was included in the list.
He said the government had taken the position that the petitioner posed security threats, questioning how a sitting member of the National Assembly could be considered a security threat to the government. The counsel argued that the government was merely harassing the petitioner.
According to the written order, the respondents stated in their reply that the petitioner had been nominated in several FIRs. However, the petitioner’s counsel contended that no such record existed showing that he had been named in those cases. The bench issued notices to the federal government and other relevant authorities, directing them to submit their replies by March 24.
