ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sunday strongly condemned the growing prejudice, hatred and discrimination against Islam and its followers and said the world must accept the fact that Islam is a religion that teaches peace, tolerance, justice and humanity.

“Targeting the religion of more than one and a half billion Muslims based on the actions of a few individuals is not only unfair but also dangerous for world peace,” the party said here in a statement in relation to the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

On the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, which is observed on march 15, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf strongly condemned the growing prejudice, hatred and discrimination against Islam and Muslims around the world. It was noted that unfortunately, in the last few years, Islamophobia has become a dangerous trend in various Western countries where Muslims are being targeted on the basis of their religious beliefs, dress and identity.

It was emphasized that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan raised his voice against Islamophobia at the global level during his tenure as prime minister and effectively highlighted this issue at various international forums including the United Nations.

As a result of these efforts, it was claimed that the United Nations recognized March 15 as the International Day against Islamophobia, which is a clear recognition of the efforts of Pakistan and especially Imran Khan.

“Today, the need is for the international community to take practical steps against Islamophobia, ensure respect for the religious sentiments of Muslims and introduce laws that can prevent hatred and religious discrimination,” the party said.

The party said that it believes that Islamophobia actually promotes the politics of hatred and division; Sustainable peace in the world is possible only when all religions and cultures are respected and prejudice against any religion or nation is discouraged.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf called on the international community, the United Nations and human rights organizations to take serious note of the growing incidents of Islamophobia and take effective measures to eliminate hatred, discriminatory laws and violence against the Muslims.

“This day also reminds us that promoting interfaith harmony, tolerance and mutual respect in the world is the need of the hour so that a peaceful and just global society can be established,” the party stressed.
