The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has alleged that the recent meeting in Karachi between President Asif Ali Zardari and Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, a senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), was aimed at formulating what it described as a “formula for plundering the resources of Sindh”.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson on Sunday, the GDA claimed that Zardari appeared ready once again to compromise on the interests of Sindh in order to prolong his hold on power.
The alliance warned that any bargaining over the province’s resources would be strongly resisted, adding that the people of Sindh would reject every conspiracy directed against the province’s interests.
The statement further asserted that the people of Sindh would never tolerate any attempt to divide the province or exploit its resources for political purposes. The GDA also cautioned that those who sought to compromise on Sindh’s interests would face a strong public reaction, emphasising that safeguarding the unity and resources of the province was the responsibility of every patriotic citizen. The alliance maintained that any bargaining or political manoeuvring over Sindh’s resources for vested interests would be firmly rejected by the people of the province.
