ISLAMABAD: Former captain of Pakistan football team and FIFA award winner footballer Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed of Pakistan Army has become Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament.

A seven times elected Member of the Parliament was elected uncontested.

Former federal information and health secretary Syed Anwer Mahmood told the media here that Hafizzudin Ahmad, who was captain of the Pakistan football team in 1968/1970, greatly loved Pakistan and its people.

Anwer, who was Hafizuddin’s university and classmate in Dhaka University during United Pakistan, recalled that Hafizuddin Ahmad was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1968. Anwer has felicitated him for his election for the prestigious office.
