PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday issued notices to the federal government and other respondents in a contempt of court petition filed against the inclusion of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Akbar Ayub Khan’s name in the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL).
The case was heard by a single-member bench headed by PHC Chief Justice S M Attique Shah.
The petitioner’s counsel, Ali Azeem advocate, appeared before the court and argued that the applicant, an elected MPA, had been placed on the PNIL without being issued any prior notice.
He told the court that the bench had earlier ordered the removal of the petitioner’s name from the list, but the directive had not yet been implemented. The counsel pleaded that the government had still not explained the reasons for placing Akbar Ayub Khan’s name on the PNIL, which has effectively prevented him from travelling abroad.
After the arguments, the court issued notices to the federal government and other respondents and directed them to submit their replies within 14 days. The hearing was then adjourned.
