ISLAMABAD: The UK government on Thursday urged British nationals not to travel to the restive Gilgit-Baltistan region due to security concerns.
In a statement, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said it “advises against all but essential travel to Gilgit-Baltistan due to reports of unrest and protests, intermittent movement restrictions, and disruptions to mobile and internet services.”
It warned travel insurance could be invalidated if any citizen travelled to the northern mountainous region.
The advisory comes after an 11-day curfew in Skardu and Gilgit, imposed following violent protests over the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran that left more than 20 people dead.
