PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday referred two petitions to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances and issued notices to police officials in one case seeking their response while disposing of another one.
PHC Chief Justice SM Attique Shah heared four petitions seeking the recovery of missing persons,Lawyers for the petitioners, the additional advocate general, the deputy attorney general and other relevant officials appeared before the court.
During the hearing, counsel for one of the petitioners informed the court that two relatives of his client had been taken into custody by the officials from Sarband and Mailward police stations in Bara. He alleged that the police were now demanding Rs400,000 for their release.
The lawyer stated that the police had also sent photographs of the two detainees to the petitioner, but the family could not afford to pay the demanded amount to secure their release from police custody.At this, the chief justice directed the additional advocate general to personally examine the matter.
