LAHORE:After years of hiatus, board-style examinations for Class-8 students of public schools have been resumed in Punjab with the first mathematics paper held across the province on Monday.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the revival of these exams would help improve educational standards and provide a better way to assess student performance. The exams are being conducted by the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA).

The minister added that modern technology was being used to ensure transparency, including machine marking with artificial intelligence for the first time in Pakistan. QR codes have also been introduced on exam papers to allow complete tracking.

Talking to The News, PECTAA CEO M Musa Ali Bokhari said that 1.3 million students were appearing in the exams at 5,714 centres across Punjab, with 6,083 superintendents and a total staff of 30,000 deployed. He added that these measures would ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the examinations. The minister praised the efforts of the PECTAA team for successfully organising the board-style exams across the province.
