Waste to Value project: Pilot bio-CNG plant starts production, says minister

LAHORE:Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that Waste to Value was an important phase of Suthra Punjab programme under which thousands of tons of collected waste will be used for energy purposes.

He was presiding over a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat in which a detailed review of the waste to value phase of Suthra Punjab was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Director General Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din also attended the meeting.

The minister expressed satisfaction that the pilot bio-CNG plant has started production at the Lakhoder landfill site. 'Initially, 85 kg of CNG is being produced daily from the waste, however, our target is to increase the methane gas concentration from 70 to 85 percent', he figured out.

He said that in the pilot project, high-quality gas was produced from one ton of waste. The minister said that this project is being run as a self-funding circular economy solution.'The CM has stressed on upgrading the project. Work is also under way on other waste-to-energy projects under the patronage of the chief minister', he assured.
